Father Michael's Requiem Mass 31st October 2019
0ur beloved Parish Priest, Rev Dr. Michael Saunders had his Requiem Mass at St Peter's Catholic Church, West Swindon on Thursday 31st October. Fr Michael had planned the whole event in advance and I'm sure helped orchestrate in spirit on the actual day. The chief celebrant was Bishop Declan Lang and he was joined by Bishop Emeritus Crispin Hollis of Portsmouth. Over 40 of his brother Diocesan priests concelebrated. It was a spectacle that St Peter's will never see the like of again. The Carronbridge Mass (composed for the parish by Suzanne Bullimore for the church's silver jubilee in 2010) was sung at Fr Michael's request. At the end of the Mass his coffin was taken to its place of rest at Kingsdown Cemetery to the joyous ululating of the African choir.
Fr Michael even involved himself in discussion and planning with Carrie Louzado who was responsible for the beautiful floral arrangements.
A marquee had been erected in the car park to cater for the almost 500 people present and Fr Michael's family joined the parish for the buffet after the Commital at Kingsdown Cemetery. Again Fr Michael had given his instructions for the hospitality, choosing the caterers and even tasting the wine beforehand that was to be served.
Two parishioners, Terry Dixon and Dylan Miles ran the Swindon Half Marathon to raise funds for the parish and the money they raised bought this memorial bench for our beloved Fr Michael RIP.
Rest in Peace Father Michael; you will NEVER be forgotten.
