"You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth will be considered loosed in heaven."
(Matthew 16:18-19)

Former Parish Priests

Father Lucas Rodrigues s.f.x.
Fr Lucas was appointed parish priest of St Peter's in January 2020 after the sad death of our beloved Fr Michael Saunders. He steered the parish through the dark days of COVID and lockdown, ensuring that St Peter's was a warm, welcoming and safe place for everyone. He left us when he was appointed parish priest of Holy Rood, Swindon, in September 2023.
 Rev. Dr. Michael Saunders
Rev. Dr Michael Saunders was parish priest of St Peter's from September 2003 until his very sad death on October 12th 2019. He was very much loved and his 16-year tenure saw him become very much part of his parishioners' lives, baptising their children, presiding over the Sacramental programmes of First Reconciliation, The Eucharist and Confirmation and their weddings, finally officiating over their Requiem Mass. He was a Canon Lawyer and a very learned and wise man who was known for his excellent preaching and teaching. He was a frequent visitor to Canada, where he was based before becoming parish priest here at St Peter's. He also lectured in law at Ottawa University. May he rest in peace.
Father Tom Kelly
Father Tom Kelly preceded Fr Michael and was parish priest from 1990-2003 before leaving us to become parish priest of St Joseph's in Bridgwater. He is very fondly remembered, and again his long tenure of 13 years ensured that he became very much part of his parishioner's lives. Before coming to St Peter's, Fr Tom was parish priest of St Thomas More, Marlborough. He has now retired.
Canon Liam O'Driscoll
Canon Liam O'Driscoll built St Peter's Catholic Church which was opened in December 1985. Prior to the church being built Canon Liam resided in 1, Liskeard Way in Freshbrook where he turned his garage into a little chapel where morning Mass was said. Sunday Mass was held in the shared church at Toothill. Canon Liam  was famous for his powers of persuasion. Any request was usually prefixed with the phrase, "Oh you're great," in his Irish accent, before he made his request. Needless to say he always got his own way! Canon O'Driscoll left St Peter's in 1990 to become Parish Priest of St John's in Trowbridge, Parish Priest of St Thomas More in Bradford on Avon but is now retired and living in Bristol in a retirement home run by the Sisters.
